Detroit’s essential hotels, mapped

The Shinola Hotel

Planning a visit to Detroit? Then you’ve come to the right place.

From hostels to boutique hotels, Detroit has a place to stay for everybody. We’re mapping 14 of the best in the city right now, whether you want to be right in the middle of it all, at a bed & breakfast, a hostel, or an eco-friendly lodge.

We can expect more hotels in Detroit in the next few years. Near the Masonic Temple, an Albert Kahn building is being redeveloped into a residence and boutique hotel. Downtown, we can expect a West Elm Hotel to take shape in the coming years. And the largest development north of Mack Avenue in nearly a century will also include a hotel.

Many of these are located near the People Mover or the QLine. A map to attractions around the streetcar can be found here. If you prefer to walk, we have a handy architectural walking tour. And riding the bus just got easier thanks to the city’s new Dart payment system—here’s 50 places you can get to from one of DDOT’s 24/7 bus lines.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a great start for finding the right place for visitors. We also didn’t include any of the casino hotels, which are popular options. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments of drop us a note on the tip line.
